PC Gamming:
Aurally, SimCity 4 is a marvel. The game comes with a number of swanky tracks, all of which are excellent, atmospheric, and very hip-sort of a jazz/techno fusion.
GamingNext:
The SimCity series have always had a good soundtrack. Calming music of many different types fades in and out as you tend to your city, and it complements the in-game sounds well. This game looks to have a much larger soundtrack than the previous games, something we can all appreciate.
From SimCity 4 forum:
The music is great! There's plenty of it as well. One track in particular sounds like it was pulled directly off A Dub Transmission by Bill Laswell and Jah Wobble (the track with the 'echoing' trumpet). The music is less lively than in 3k and more mechanical. Whereas 3k had upbeat jazzy music (and brighter visuals), SC4 more muted. One of my favorite tracks is more progressive and even has some abstract female vocals in it. All in all, the music in SC4 is well done.
Gamers Hell:
The soundtrack included with SimCity 4 is also top notch. Some of the tracks should remind you a bit of those of earlier games, but now you get a nice selection of tracks, fitting in several genres. Jazz, hip-hop, and rock is what most of the music can be described as, but what's great is how everything sounds so ambient and non-disturbing. There is no denying that Maxis did a good job in this department.
Gamersclick:
Most of the time when I play video games I turn off the music and listen to my own, most of the time it leaves me with a detached feeling away from the true game experience. However the Jazz, contemporary, fusion style of music that is heard so soothing during game play, is the perfect mix of stress free sound and city atmosphere.
Game Nikki:
The soundtrack to SimCity 4 is a satisfying and rich jazz sound. It's high-quality music that I would think all should enjoy.
Game Raiders:
Sim City 4 has some beautiful musical tracks that play during development. The other sound effects also fit in nicely with the entire game. When you place a building on an area it looks and sounds like you dropped that building--a nice effect. You also have plenty of construction sounds and other sounds you would expect to find in a thriving city.
Adrenaline Vault:
The music in SimCity 4 adds a level of quality ambiance that blends in so well with the background, you'll be humming chords to yourself in the shower.
Total Video Games:
Great musical score featuring a wide range of different influences + thousands of great samples.
Game Planet
They have some great background music tracks that you can select.
Gamezone:
The music is trademark SimCity style with its easy-going lighthearted orchestrations that fit the gameplay perfectly. The various ambient sound effects are also exceptional.
Games Domain:
It's hard to see how Maxis could have made the game look better, and the music is equally first class.
Game Pro:
A wide range of jazzy, excellently orchestrated music puts you in the right managerial mood
Action Trip:
The sound in the game doesn't appear to have any flaws. Various high-quality sounds can be heard all throughout the city jungle, from sudden gusts of wind to children's laughter. On top of that, SimCity 4 has a superb soundtrack with a large number of tunes.
